Privacy Policy
Datick is a private, offline-first event countdown app. This policy explains in plain terms what data the app handles, where it goes, and what we (the developer) can and cannot see.
The short version
Datick does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any of your data with us or with any third party. The developer has no servers, no analytics, no tracking SDKs, and no way to see your events. If you choose to enable iCloud Sync, your data is stored only in your own private iCloud account, governed by Apple's privacy practices — not ours.
Data Datick stores
Datick stores the following on your device, in a local Core Data database:
- Event titles, dates, times, time zones, icons, colors, photos, repeat settings, custom unit labels, notes, archive state, and notification settings — everything you create inside the app.
- App preferences (theme, sort order, language).
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly enable iCloud Sync (see below).
iCloud Sync (optional, via Apple CloudKit)
If you enable iCloud Sync in iOS Settings, Datick uses Apple's CloudKit private database to synchronize your events between your own Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, future Mac).
- Where the data is stored: Apple's iCloud servers, in your own iCloud account.
- Who can read it: Only you. CloudKit's private database is encrypted in transit and at rest. The Datick developer has no access to it, no API key for it, and no way to read your events.
- What's transmitted: The same fields stored locally (event titles, dates, icons, colors, notes, etc.) plus any photo backdrops you attach. Photos are stored in CloudKit's asset storage tied to your iCloud account.
- Apple's role: CloudKit is operated by Apple. Apple's handling of CloudKit data is governed by their Privacy Policy and iCloud Terms.
- You can turn it off: iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Apps Using iCloud → Datick → toggle off. Existing iCloud-synced data is removed from iCloud per Apple's standard deletion process.
Other data flows
- Calendar / Reminders import: Only when you explicitly tap "Import" and grant permission. Datick reads event titles, dates, and notes from the selected items and creates Datick events from them. The original calendar/reminders are untouched. No event data is sent off-device by Datick through this feature.
- Photo backdrops: When you choose a photo for an event, the app saves a copy in its own app-group container on your device. The photo is also synced via CloudKit if iCloud Sync is on (see above).
- Notifications: Scheduled locally via iOS. Datick does not use remote push notifications and does not communicate with any push notification server.
- Live Activities / Dynamic Island: When you start a Live Activity, the data displayed (title, icon, countdown date) lives in your Live Activity's iOS-managed memory only. No remote service is involved.
What Datick does NOT do
- No analytics SDKs (no Firebase, no Mixpanel, no Amplitude — nothing).
- No crash reporters (no Crashlytics, no Sentry — nothing).
- No advertising SDKs and no ads, ever.
- No tracking. The app does not request App Tracking Transparency permission because it does not track you.
- No remote configuration, no server-side feature flags, no remote content delivery.
- No third-party login providers. Datick has no accounts at all.
Permissions Datick requests
- Notifications: to deliver event reminders you scheduled.
- Calendar / Reminders: only if you use the import feature, and only for the events you select.
- Photo Library: only if you add a photo backdrop to an event.
You can revoke any of these in iOS Settings at any time without affecting the rest of the app.
Children's privacy
Datick is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages. Datick does not knowingly collect any personally identifiable information from anyone, of any age. There is no sign-up flow and no way for the app to associate data with a real-world identity.
Data retention and deletion
Local data lives on your device until you delete an event, archive it, or uninstall the app. Uninstalling Datick removes all local data. iCloud-synced data is managed by Apple's CloudKit retention policy and is removed when you disable iCloud Sync for Datick or delete events.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change and the new version will be published on this page. Material changes will also be announced in the app's release notes.
